Xavi Costa chose the Noia Freixenet club to return to Catalonia after spending two years on the Italian Serie A1 with the CGC Viareggio team, where he was runner-up for the WS Europe Cup (2016/17). Costa trained at the junior level of the CH Vila-seca hockey club, and made his first team début during the 2002/03 season at the Primera Nacional, making his way up to OK Liga and taking on the highest state-level competition for three years. During the 2006/07 season, he joined the Lleida Llista Blava club, and one year later, he signed with Club Patín Tenerife. During the four seasons he spent in the Canary Islands, he won a WS Europe Cup (2007/08), and was runner-up for the Continental Cup (2008/09). In 2011, he signed with the Vendrell club, where he won the Copa del Rey in the following season (2012/13), as the MVP, and also won the WS Europe Cup. At the Reus Deportivo club, he remained runner-up for the Spanish Super Cup (2013/14) and runner-up for the WS Europe Cup (2014/15). Before heading over to Italy, he spent one season with the Barça club (2015/16).
